WHAT IF WE HAD SUBTRACTED OPRAH AND ADDED ALI

I meant the Champ, not Saadia. Of course, she'd have knocked their knee socks off with some iambic pentameter (didn't that used to be an Olympic event?). But I digress.

Truly, I don't know what to make of it. I get Rio...Great argument...First time in South America...Nude Beach Volleyball as a demonstration sport.

I don't get Chicago getting the first black ball. Tokyo's bid was lame. You got the idea they almost hoped they didn't get it. Madrid will be great someday but better if it is not a cult of personality. But Chicago is beyond a world class city. The rowing events venue needed work but everything else was solid.

You almost have to feel we're still paying the price for being the "go it alone" state. Maybe there's a pinch of "You have dissenters. We don't have dissenters at the Olympics. We remember the riots of 1968. Chicago is a scary place."

This, of course, will drive my GOP friends totally batpoop but you have to give BHO more credit for going now that you know it wasn't precooked. The guy actually took a chance, rolled the dice to get the Olympic games to his home country and home state. Hell, I'm pretty sure Abraham Lincoln didn't go to Copenhagen and he was very cool...and a wrestler...including in Beardstown...Maybe that's next for BHO...wrestling in Beardstown.

Blaming Bush? Really? You taking ques from Roland? Arrogance that he could carismatize the IOC comes to mind before courage.

That particular point was that BHO took a risk, which was kind of new.

There was a black man egotistical
Sinking fast in all that's statistical
He went to Denmark
On a whim?
On a Lark?

No .. he was told to go by his handlers .. Jarret and the Chicago 7, or however many of them are running that mob.

This doesn't show him as brave, it shows he is all about delivering for his unions and Chicago gang, and his ACORN army types. "Risk" would have been him speaking without his teleprompter.

Rio has beautiful surroundings, and they are growing. Chicago is known for world class corruption.

BHO managed to talk/read a lot about himself in his pitch, and the global significance of His Win. US presidents have never gone to pitch the US for the games, but BHO is "historic".

I don't get why breaking that standard elevates BHO above Lincoln, though he and many of his followers have already enshrined Him. BHO comparisons to Lincoln and Kennedy are premature and based solely in the audacity of hope.

He wasn't getting the games for racist AmeriKKKa or the Land of Lincoln, he was trying to wrestle the billions for his crooked real estate pals.

The IOC wasn't buying that they needed to give self proclaimed prez of the world a big present for his going out party. (yes, some were speaking of how nice it would be for BHO to have this for HIS last year in office ... maybe He'll have to take a page from His pal Chavez, and proclaim Himself prez' for life)

A few years more of BHO, and the Euro bunch will have to deal with Iran themselves, if they can't get Israel to go to bat for them. They will long for the days when we looked out for them while some pointed fingers, (though we were never "alone")

Maybe this is backlash for BHO dropping our missile shield plans, and going soft on Iran.

Chicago would have had better luck if the egomaniacal Obamas had stayed home and Michael Jordon had gone to Copenhagen instead.

Disappointed in the USA not getting it, but not disappointed that the politicans in Chicago and the cronies are not going to line their pockets.
I view Chicago politics and the leadership of that city as extremly corrupt and can never, ever root for anything that continues to support that power group. I do not think I am alone in that thought.

I don't think BHO felt that he was taking any kind of risk. His ego wouldn't allow him to think he could possibly fail. I think he really felt that he and MO would waltz in there, impress everyone with their presence, let the smooth-talking flow, and it would be a done-deal. After all, it worked to get him elected - he became President with no real message or substance, just smooth-talk. Why wouldn't it work ont he Olympics?

Jason,

If he didn't feel there was risk, why did he dither so long over the decision whether to go at all?

To me, the real question is whether he got a bogus signal the thing was wired or he did a courageous thing.

If mere cockiness explained everything, he would have just anouned his Afghanistan policy and dictated what he will and won't sign for Health Care. This is a very cautious adminstration. They've been "protecting the legacy" right from jump street.
