VOWEL MOVEMENTS, PART TWO: HALL OF FAME MANGLES
Watched some of a good baseball game last night and got a clinic on vowel movements. Joe Morgan talked about a young pitcher adjusting to the "Major Ligg" competition. Then later he discussed how difficult it would be for a speedy rookie to "still" second base. Later he discussed how successful starting pitchers had to have the "wheel" to hold the other side after his own team had scored the lead runs.
Can't anybody on television speak English?

Noun/verb agreement, the use of the words good/well, may/can, saw/seen ... those are all lost on today's young people.
My first grade teacher wouldn't be happy.
UMRB, please, a speak on the Paris Hilton 45 day jail sentence! If no speak, I know you had to get a laugh about a "publicist" givng legal advice! Penny for your thoughts, UMRB! I know you may have heard a few lame excuses in your day!
Also, a PSA for all Dish subscribers: Cards on Dish now!!! Cards on DISH!!! Now all us Cards fans can watch the Cards stumble even further.

A quick thought on Barry Bonds - As far as I know, he has not failed a urine test. I am sure he can not go a couple of innings without using a cup. Not fair to harass this guy. I think he is a great ball player.
It is clear your remarks about Joe Morgan are racially based and insensitive. Jesse Jackson will be demanding your removal from your high public position.
0852,
First, you obviously have not read Vowel Movements I.
Second, I missed the memo where black media people were allowed to speak a different language without public criticism.
Finally, just to show how equal opportunity a grouch I am, I will soon be writing an essay on why Lesly Swick cannot pronounce "Rural" but still gets paid to be on television.
The words don't care about the color of the person who mangles 'em.
