LIMITS OF FREE SPEECH

We rejected a comment and what appeared to be a response to it (even though it was never published). Both revolved around personal attacks which didn't advance any inquiry in any post or comment here. I detest limiting speech but the folks who come in here are my guests and some of this stuff went past the boiling point.

That's interesting. I wonder what the limits are in regards to free speech. Should there be any? I am against Lible and Slander just for the fact that it's lying about someone. A personal attack could be subjective. If the personal attack had merit, should it be limited? These are issues I deal with when moderating Scams.Net. All in all It's a great subject for discussion.

Appreciate you putting some type of corral around those that don't really want to keep on post. I am really amazed by these foul mouthed folks. You have a well thought out blog that has increased our awareness of things. Thank you for your efforts to show boundaries, as some of these types know no such boundaries, only the ability to act and think stupid. For us, our votes are with at least some attempt at intelligent discussion. Speech from these idiots needs to be ignored. Thanks for your work in educating and informing the many. Keep up the good work.

Sean,

You're right. The concept is fascinating and endless. The tie-breaker here was that the elimiatees did not advance the topic at all. It was pure ad hominem attack.

My bias will always be for publication but I don't anybody coming into my party house and wiping body parts on the curtains, either.

Hey...did you hear what the Pope said?

The Pope didn't SAY anything. He quoted from a letter written by a Byzantine emperor 800 or so years ago. A variety of kneejerk reactions from the usual suspects, of course claiming incredible insult and hatred. My fave was the fellow comparing the Pope to Hitler. Talk about clueless!

I believe there should be some sort of "rule of engagement" with others when speaking. It makes no sense to just start blurting out nonsense just to offend or take something off point.

I also believe when making a statement on your own and calling it out "into the blind" that there should be no rules or any form of censorship. Like standing on a soapbox and saying what you feel even if there's nobody else around. say it because it feels good.

Hell, hold a pistol by your side and take yourself back to the days when things were real!

Say what you want and carry a gun with impunity!

That's kind of the Aaron Burr approach.

Thanks for Coming By.
