GREECEFIRE!

The concept of USA basketball took another body blow last night.

When one's opponent shoots 60%, one is not playing much defense.

College Coach, NBA Coach, doesn't matter. We need to find a way to keep a team together for a year at a time. We'd be better off taking BYU players on their sabbaticals. This is not surprising, but disappointing.

Somehow, I think James Naismith would be amused.

Okay Tony. I'm going to assume that because you live in Quincy, that you're a soccer fan. If I'm wrong, stop reading here.

Here's my question, if you're still reading:
Why have other countries been able to gain more ground on us in basketball and baseball then we have been able to gain on them in soccer?

My theory on why we suck in soccer is that while the best athletes in most countries are on the soccer pitch, in the U.S. they are playing one of the big three (football, baseball, basketball). But that theory is weakened when Greece beats us in basketball and Cuba bests us in baseball.

So what do you think? Assuming that you're still reading.

Only have time for the short form. I believe American Soccer is one of the reason for the influx of latino middle infielders in baseball. Perfectly good compact, quick athletes who would have made great second basemen and SS's gravitate to Soccer traveling teams at about age 9 and baseball never gets a shot at them. So Venezuelan's for example fill the marcroeconomic gap and play baseball instead of soccer.

It's sort of the "Motorcycle Diaries" in reverse.

More later.
