ALL TIME WINNER OF.......

......THE "MR. AFTERSHAVE ARRIVES THREE DAYS BEFORE I DO" AWARD.

Guy was 25 feet away in a moderate crosswind, blocked out by a tree where I couldn't see him. Still, I knew he was there and I knew who he was. My God, he must roll around in it!

Somebody please explain this phenomenon to me!

I know nothing of WIEDA. Sorry.

While I don't comment on pending City Business, I can tell you generally how we handle Firm or Family Conflicts. If someone in the law firm of a member of the legal department or a family member is involved in a case that has a city component, the lawyer simply disqualifies himself and the rest of us do the work and cut him out. Then that lawyer remains all the way out of the matter on all sides.

Just for an example, the city is currently litigating with a citizen over a property right. Before that, I was already representing this person's spouse on a totally unrelated matter that had nothing to do with the City. The other guys have just handled this one and I have instructed all the departments involved to "Chinese Wall" me from all the information regarding that case.

Take a hint, look at who's sitting next to the Mayor on a given night when its a council matter.

We got through a ton of gymnastics to avoid conflicts of interest within the City Legal Department.

This is necessarily pretty general but I hope it's helpful.
