THE RIGID DIGIT OF FOSSIL FUELS IS BUT PART OF THE UNSEEN HAND OF THE MARKETPLACE

Isn't this the way whole Adam Smiff thang was supposed to work: The price goes way up on something, for whatever reason. When the increases are painful enough, the consumer finds ways to use less of the expensive thang, i.e. reducing demand. When the demand does down, the item is harder to sell. Best way to keep selling it is to reduce the price.

Understanding that there are individual hardships involved, this means, as a society, the sooner we get to $6.50 gallons, the sooner the real conservation will start and the sooner the price of fuel, whatever it may be, will go down. You see, when you cut through all the self-interest BS, the Windfallers, OPEC oligopolists and the Speculators are our friends. Just as Gonzo said in a different context, torture is good for us!

Now get out there and burn those daid dinosaurs for the team!

Your theory on oil is probably correct, IF we were only dealing with our nation. Oil is a world commodity and developing nations like China and India are using much much more than they did just a couple of years ago. Unless the entire world reduced consumption, your theory would not work.

If you lissen to the economic "experts", the problem is that supply and demand are almost equal. That allows the oil producing countries to charge whatever they can.

What we really need is alternative fuels that are cost effective. Developing of those alternatives and acceptance by the public take time, perhaps a generation.

In the meantime we pay what we must to keep the life stype we want. And so it goes.

That's kind of what I mean by finding ways to use less of a thang.

How in the hell are we ever going to stop using less of the thang when the left is against nuclear power as an option. Europe is and has been using it for years. Clinton won't support it and Obama won't............who????

Bushie,

You and I are not very far apart on this one. I used to worry about where we stored the waste. Now I just figure our good ally in Pakistan will take it, bury it shallow and place it near Osama.

Great idea UMR. Or we can put it in the hole that will be left in Iran after Israel gets through destroying the nuclear bomb plant they say they arn't building.
