JOHNNY MAC! YOU OL' RASCAL

THIS JUST IN!

Flying around on a corporate plane with a wicked city woman? Taking a dip in the pool of lobbying services? Way to fight the "too old" beef. Worked for Boris Yeltsin.

Somehow, I don't think Dr. Dobson is gonna find this amusing.

Oh, and John, your "thank you" card from Michelle Obama is on its way.

As hit pieces go, I give this one a C-. You'd think they could come up with something better than "it kind of looked like McCain did something dishonest 8 years ago".

Come on, guys. The man's a politician. There are real skeletons in that closet somewhere.

They have more than just this.

Also, Drudge posted this in December.

Why now?

They got confirmation. These are not stupid people. They know what happened to Rather and Maples.

It'd be a hit piece if she weren't a lobbyist. This from a guy who got his "Get out of Jail Free" card in the Keating caper. Perhaps he should have remembered not to walk too close the flame.

Skip the sex part, pursuing this "friendship" and corporate roadtrips with a lobbyist after surviving Keating is indicative of something other than "Straight Talk".

Drudge had a "developing" then took it down....presumably no source...even a Drudge-level source.

Wow UMR, damn interesting crap coming from you as one who wanders up to the trough of this city hall to slop with the rest of barnyard critters.. No wonder you support Hillary, you share her same nasty streak. People like you (clinton supporters or jock straps as I like to call them - notice I'm being specfic) amaze me. Your buddy Bill assualts women while in office and you have the gall to jumb on this hit piece like a kid on Christmas morning. You should be ashamed. Grow up, act a little more statesmen like instead of like a small town political hack.

You have too much damn glass in your house to be throwing stones.

bushwhackedout,

I guess you would be making your point quite effectively, if you had a point.

NBC, CNN and FOX are all discussing this story seriously and my little political commentary blog is supposed to ignore it?

If you have some kind of charge to make against me, make it like a man. Otherwise, you should "jumb" on the opportunity to learn to spell.

The world is talking about this story and I'm supposed to ignore it? Where the hell does that standard come from? Are you Howie Kurtz in drag or what?

I like Mr. Bushie. He's funny. He's also going to be mad for the next eight years because the Democrats will have Congress and the White House. Nothing better to read than a funny mad guy. Especially when he's not trying to be funny. That makes it even funnier. Let's have some fun!

This is pretty incredible.

Evidently, prior to publication of today's story, McCain's lawyer supplied detailed rebuttals to many of the Times charges. And by detailed I mean dates, witnesses, and documents. Look it up.

It is criminal that the Times didn't include any of this information in the story. They violated the most sacred rule of good journalism; giving the target of the investigation a chance to have their story told alongside the charges.

What this proves is that the Times isn't interested in balance. They are interested in smearing McCain.

At 9:53 AM, February 21, 2008, Blogger UMRBlog said...

0940,

I take your point but I'm not sure I agree with you.

The point of the story is "McCain's staff frets because he puts himself into the appearance of impropriety".

Bennett then rebuts a charge not made: "McCain never did any favors for this lobbyist..McCain was always guided by his own view of proper outcomes."

Nothing at all to rebut the "Caesar's Wife" Story was submitted, as Bennett explains it.

I agree with you that the rebuttal TO A STORY should be in the story where possible. The rebuttal to something NOT CHARGED IN THE STORY need not be included in the story.

To make the same point a different way, would the Sun Times have had an obligation to report that Rezko once rescued a poodle from a burning building?

Now, having said all that, I have made the point frequently here that we, in The Basin, Never commit journalism...have no training in it. We don't break stories. We just write about stuff that interests us. Since I don't know who you are, I hold open the possiblity that you know more about journalism than I. It is not possible for you to know less about journalism than I, so your chances are good.

Thanks Oracle. Glad you think I'm funny. Hang on a second, I need to make a tpyo so UMR can make fun of me. The fact that I only have one hand and have to take extra time to get out my dictionary to check my spelling shouldn't concern UMR. You may be right about the congress and the white house for the next four years but I doubt it will go eigth years. This country is about due for a good laxitive and either one of these empty suits could provide just the right touch.

Just remember, it was Hillary who wanted the military not to wear uniforms in the white house.

One of my favorite things about the clients I represent in ADA and discrimination cases is their pride. They never use their disabilities as excuses for poor performance.

The "rule" of permanent military staff dressing down in civies began in the Reagan administration. (The only time Ollie and Poinie medaled up was when they were in the soup before congress).

Even assuming your point--to the extent you ever have one--to be true, it proves what?

If typing and spelling are difficult for you try coming to some sort of point more quickly.

cps: Just so you are not disappointed, it's "laxative"

Thanks again UMR for correcting my poor spelling. Figures if anyone knew the correct spelling of anything to do with shit it would be you. I wasn't using my being one handed as excuse for my poor spelling more like I really didn't care enough about your blog to send my very best. How's that for getting to the point.

I have no idea who The Oracle is or where he lives, but as a resident of the wonderful State O' Illinois, I can't wait for the entire country to experience the wonderful governance we are so fortunate to have here every freakin' day.

What? You aren't yearning for Springfield on the Potomac?

Apparently our collegue from The QC Examiner needs to read and study all my previous SPEAKS. He would realize I was bashing Governor Blagojevich long before it was popular among Democrats. As a resident of the great State of Illinois he would also realize that Blago is not running for President. Further, a big reason reason we are stuck with Blago is the incompetance of the State Republican party's nomination of Bozo Topinka to run against him.

Now watch you post this and delete it a minute later to teach me a lesson.

QCE,

Gubernatorially speaking, we were down on the plantation for 26 years, 14 years of pin stripe patronage, 8 years of clogged arteries and four years of pre-prison prep school.

If we can take the blame for not offering better alternatives and campaigns during that dog and pony show, you guys can take the blame for allowing Pepperdine East to infiltrate the Governor's excecutive office (Note: I didn't say Mansion)

Golly, I sound about as depressing as Lou Dobbs.

I resent your characterization of me as "you guys".

I'm not a Republican or Democrat either. I hate politics as usual, no matter which party is doing the "usual".

Don't try to shove me into one of your little boxes.

I noticed you get upset when others try to put you in a box----well, do unto others, etc.

Sheesh!

BTW, nice try.

I"m not disagreeing (although most of us would take back the Edgar years back in a heartbeat...no pun intended despite your joke about the man's cardiovascular system), but what in the wide, wide world of sports do you call what we've had post-George Ryan?

Rhymes with bustertruck.

Doing a little Obama here. Saw this on QC site thought I'd share it. seemed timely.

"I love it, when it is Bill Clinton, the liberals scream that ‘it’s just sex’ and no one should care.

(1969) Eileen Wellstone - assault
(1972) A female student claimed sexual assault to Yale police,
(1974) University of Arkansas student again made the sexual assault claim,
(1978) W. Broadrick claimed rape,
(1979) Carolyn Moffit, exposed himself
(1982) Elizabeth Ward, forced sex.
( ? ) Paula Corbin, sexual harassment suit,
(1991) Sandra Allen James, sexual assault
(1992) Christy Zercher, exposed himself
(1993) kathleen Wiley, sexual assault
Paula Jones
Monica Lewinsky

But they cried, Ken Starr was a fanatic.

Now, they are trying to make a deal out of a friendship, when this issue was looked into and dismissed years ago. The gal is a lobbyist - and McCain voted against the issues that she was lobbying for.

Can we say, ‘liberal hypocrisy?’

Enjoy!

Besides spelling "Willey" incorrectly, just to keep me in practice, I guess your point is that you don't get the point of the Times article. I certainly believe you.

His staff was worried about creating the appearance of impropriety. He wasn't. Not a good situation for an ethics Zenmaster.

Of course the entire NYT is staffed with raving liberals. They administer a blood test as part of the employment package.

Yesterday the New York Times ran its hit job on John McCain.

The story was on page A1, the front page.

Today, they run the McCain denial against the Times story.

It appears on A20, the second to last page.

It was brought up by the link and, yes, there is a typo in there. "So" should have been "to".

If you can't see the parallel to the old Boris Yeltsin story and the current McCain story, you either don't know the Yeltsin story or you're too worried about locating liberals in the press.

Have a nice weekend and TYFCB.
