"SPENDING PROTESTER" GETS A HAND FROM "SPENDING -REDUCED" U.S POSTAL SERVICE

Try this little experiment--it'll cost you 44 cents. Address a letter to yourself in 62301 or 5 zip code, whichever is yours. Any time on any Sunday (other than three day weekends) drop it into any mailbox in Quincy. Almost every time you will get it Tuesday.

Mail it Saturday, you'll get it Monday about half the time and Tuesday about half the time. Mail it Friday, you'll get it Saturday. Mail it Thursday, you get it Friday. But, on Sunday, our spending-reduced Postal Service no longer picks up.

That's real Handy for last night's Spending Protester. He says "we" (I presume he had a mouse in his pocket) sent a letter [to the Aldermen] on April 26 (a Sunday) asking them to delay a vote bound to happen on April 27. Now, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that, based on our little experiment, this urgent call for inaction to take place on April 27, arrived at our surface mail-reliant Aldermen's homes April 28.

This raises the musical question: "Is this a dishonest ploy (to say, "Gee, I mailed them a letter") or is it mere procrastination and incompetence." I don't have a preference. Roll your own, smoke 'em if you got 'em.

The meetings are on Monday Nights: Who knew?

Now try this little experiment. See how long an email takes to get to someone if you send it to someone on a Sunday. In his speech, that's what he said he did .

This raises the musical question: "Is this a dishonest ploy by the city attorney to marginalize a citizen or is it mere incompetence as to his ability to listen and hear what was actually said?"

0422,

Two different utterances, two different paragraphs, if you will. (I know people don't speak in paragraphs.) The discussion of emails was separate from him saying he "sent" letters on April 26. Let's assume he sent PDFs by email April 26.

Come on. One business day for the people have email and happen to check it on Sunday. Take his own version and add email. It's still a lame period of time consider a major step.

What was wrong with the 12th or 13th. Maybe the Tea lacked theobromide and they didn't have enough pep to get to it sooner.

The very nice man's own words show his team was slothful in its legislative approach.

That was even worse because the packets went out in the mail FRIDAY and still didn't get there Monday.

The guys who said "they should use email!" Always gave me a yuck. I suspected they were the same guys who would freak if the City bought computers or DSL lines for the unplugged aldermen.

You really ought to quit trying to argue with these loonies. They don't want a discussion or a debate. Whatever you say they will twist or ignore. They just want everybody else to pay their way for them. It's just another example of the something for nothing gang at work. So let 'em talk, honest citizens will see them for what they are.

I don't think true fiscal conservatives are loonies. The purpose of this thread is to give them a chance to show that they are not just dishonest grandstanders (and therefore, perhaps, true "loonies"). I would rather start out with the notion that this is a principled discussion and be disappointed than start out with a cynical view that they are loonies and be wrong.

But I do appreciate your view. I am becoming persuadable.

How freaking petty can you be??? First off, any alderman or woman without an email address should resign. They are not effective and can't possibly do the City's business without modern communication. Secondly, all city owned cell numbers except for fire and police should be published and a monthly accounting of call should be available for public viewing. Lastly, get a life counselor.

Bushie,

Just for an example, you think the people of the first ward didn't know that Virgil Goehl didn't have an email capability when they reelected him? You're trying to decide something that's not yours to decide. Sure, computer literacy is useful but some voters have obviously decided it is not essential. You liked the electorate in 2004, when 43 was reelected. How come you disagree with them now?

Look, it wasn't me who said they had this massive city government contact program or this well-oiled grass roots organization. You can say "Get a life" all you want [kind of beneath your usual performance but your call.] but all I'm doing is testing the edges of the Public Pronouncement that Mr. McQueen was so determined to make.

I guess you want him to be free to speak but nobody to be question any of the pearls he lays down, huh?

And please stop with the Chuck Scholz lovefest. We've had over four years of your rantings that John Spring is no Chuck Scholz. The problem is that you're so transparent, it's almost painful to watch. Seriously, if Chuck had been in office the past four years and made the same decisions as Spring, would you have acted any differently? I realize this will whiz right over your head because your universe is so narrow.

It doesn't matter to the discussion of the forthrightness of the TP's (which was the topic of this thread) what my compensation is (which is posted in the newspaper annually anyhow.) So that part of your obsession is just a side trip. If I happen to retire before I die. I will then post my pension benefit (down to the penny). In the meantime, it is just your way of changing the subject and you are really tiresome about it.

Municipal employees, generally speaking, are IMRF members. I didn't make that up and I'm at least the fourth generation of City Attorney hired on that basis.

I think the real danger in what the elected aldermen did was to stiffle the public knowledge of city government. I believe it was extremely elitist. Actually, I thought it was snotty. I'm all for knocking the elitist smart ass elected official off his stallion anytime they think they are entitled.
