BEIJING AND ALWAYS: FAVORITE OLYMPIC EVENTS

What's your favorite Olympic Event, Winter and Summer?

Mine have been the same for years.

Summer: 100 meter dash--not much strategy. Guy who runs the fastest, wins the race.

Winter: Downhill--Not much strategy. Guy who comes down the mountain twice in the shortest total time, wins the race.

Don't care much for anything where the Officials actually decide the worth of the performance (skating, gymnastics).

Of course, I love softball but it's being eliminated. Bush 43 is right on this one. It shouldn't be done.

What's yours?

Swimming and diving. Though, I get what you are saying about the judges and their decisions on which person wins ...

I was a lifeguard in HS and it was more or less expected we would be on the swim team. Only problem was I viewed swimming as a torture sport and I had an appointment with my pillow every morning at practice time.

It was agreed that I would be our diving team (three meter springboard and ten meter platform). I could practice that when I wanted. Since I was the only diver, I could practice when I wanted. Only problem was, I didn't know how to dive. I recruited the gymnastics coach to teach me three dives (there were only three rounds). Three dives, two apps, ten reps. 60 times up the ladders. If I did it real quick, practice could be over in an hour. Since I had a key to the pool, practice was whenever I wanted it to be.

I never minded the subjective scoring when I was competing ("competing" might be a little strong, I never medaled). I just don't like it as a spectator. No way around it. It's just unsatisfying.

I enjoy watching events you don't normally see or hear about. I don't mind if there aren't any Americans competing or leading. I learned about curling years ago and the steeplechase, it is hard even with all the coverage to see them when my schedule permits.

I like a lot of the track events.
In particular, the women's 5K run. I love the petite body and beautiful legs.
Some of the heptathalon participants have wonderful looking bodies too. :)

I've always been curious about the steeplechase. All that running and they never catch any steeples.
