DAYS OF SIGN AND ROSES: WANT SOME CHEESE WITH THAT WHINE?

It's probably just me but it seems incongruous to sell oneself as a big, tough crime fighter, half of the "dynamic duo" and then whine on local media that some big meanie has stolen some of your yard signs. I missed the TV spot but I honestly thought the message on my machine that the GOP candidate for Sheriff took part in such silliness was a joke. But, as they said in "Blazing Saddles", "It's Twooooo. Twoooooooo." Just to be clear, I'm not saying anything bad about the candidate's character or manhood, just his judgment. Didn't he play this out before he did it? In a Law Enforcement job voters are looking for a protector, not a victim.

Just another couple of days. Can it get any weirder? I imagine there'lll be a new TV commercial in NE Missouri tomorrow accusing Wes Shoemyer of sneaking into Quincy and stealing yard signs.

Now we can add a chapter to The Campaign Sign book. This may not merit a whole chapter, however. Although I have not consulted skilled "Sign Dogs," regarding the act of cry baby activity or possibly blaming the other candidate, it seems ill advised to even bring it up. Yes, sign losses are very frustrating, but, some experienced people say, always buy enough signs and save a number for the last week to make a big impact with a fresh showing of signs.

A number of years ago, I had a sign in my own yard removed several times. It did not happen after that as the metal wire Iattached to each leg of the sign was was also tied to a tree. They or it got about two feet and no doubt suffered sign skin burn when the sign was abruptly ripped out of their hands. Never was a sign taken out of my yard.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but in all fairness, I don't think the candidate mentioned pinned this on his opponent. Larry seemed to the the biggest one doing all the booo hoooing.

I think the winner of this election already knows that signage doesn't get you elected.

This was the least creative activity of Larry that I've seen in some time. A typical diversionary tactic.

Thanks for the opportunity.

It's just you. Having over 200 signs stolen is newsworthy and where I'm from a crime. Watch the clip before you classify it as "whining". It was not. With a little work maybe you can qualify for that $500 reward.

Yes, that's what is wrong with this story. Nothing wrong with dem genius who came up with this brilliant plan on Thursday night:

"We need to get a real push for Fischer and Gasko here in the final days before Tuesday. Any ideas?"

It's the dem machine in action. Those guys survey the battlefield daily via the trash/recycle routes, & other depts, and them in the evening they know exactly where to go. Kind of funny actually, they swiped one of mine, but at least they have to dispose of them. LOL

Gotta give em an A for reconnaissance.

Some R also stole all of Lootie's signs, I saw.

Kind of a "little Chicago" thing. Hope they all get off of work tomorrow.

Don't have to watch reality TV, enough drama around here to entertain all.

Now Uncle Tony,

Stealing signs in these numbers is BREAKING the law ( like you enjoy pointing out on speeding, dwi's, and school zones) . Is it just OK for Dem "soldiers" to "break the law" ?

I am 100% sure this was NOT sanctioned by the Party or Brent . But I think this belittles your very good and clean campaign to make a post like the above.

Brent and Lisa have worked very hard and like wise so have John and Big red , actions like the above just smear other wise great campaigns .

300 signs is a bit much , when we all factor an "x" amount of signs lost to damage , elements and THEFT. I think 300 is far above the X factor .

Instead of "your whining" or "stop crying" , a hearty "I am sorry and this does look bad " would go miles.

This tit for tat is the reason things here are so F***ered ! Jesus folks this crap is pretty petty and just stupid.

I think leaving the grid was the best move I ever made. I will just disappear to deal with the ones I know and trust and leave the rest of the unwashed the F*** alone.

If our side would have done a move like this ( which we wouldn't) , you can bet your damn ass that we would say "sorry actions like this are uncalled for "

But then again WHAT the F*** do I care ?

Hey anon 2013,

200 signs would be a big deal. That would mean that the investigative agencies would have 200 "victims" and 200 addresses to investigate and examine. As I understand it, investigators ares till waiting for the next 196.

I'm not condoning theft or vandalism. I was speaking strictly tactically. Bad message to be both victim and savior at the same time. It also helps when a straight story can be told.

Everybody picks their own tactics. Life is full of hard choices but I thought this was a clanger.

Yoo-Hoo, Lootie.....

I was talking tactics, not condoning crime. Jon buying into Larry's excellent adventure was a bad idea.

If we get three or four more comments in here, it's gonna up to a thousand signs, even if JM only has receipts for 600.

General Elections happen around Halloween time. Sign inventory shrinks. We've all been through it. The earlier ya put 'em out the more they get vandalized.

Proving which ones are missing is easy. You highlight all the names on your sign spreadsheet where the signs have been taken or vandalized and you give the highlighted list to the nice police officer. What a smart retired policemen doesn't do is have a press conference and alert the perps that a concerted investigation is going on.

I think this was "Passion" trumping "Proven Experience."

BTW, I never got my LOOTIE sign and my feelings are extremely hurt. My turn to whine!

UMR

The first step is admititng you are wrong. I'll assume then that you believe both candidates filed false ploice reports, or stole their own signs? Just condemn the action of the thieves, you'll have more credibility.

Dyslexia 1034,

No, the first step is getting you a refund for that Evelyn Wood Course. Reread my original post and comments. Go ahead and let your lips move.

When you find something about a false police report or candidates purloining their own signs, come back and we'll have that discussion.

Media puffery and bad tactics have nothing to do with false police reports.

BTW, I am not saying this a bad tactic for Her Redness. She's not running for a law enforcement office.

Thank you for commenting, even if it was about something I didn't say.

I check on the status of the signs in the area I live in out in the county tonight. Good news, both of the Fischer and Street signs were still there! Hard to tell if any McCoy signs were missing, way to many of them to count out here.

Great analysis. It rates right up there with the guy who wears too much aftershave and the yet to be debated topic of who would win a fight between a monkey and a dog.

That's nice.....and eleven, maybe 12 folks in your township will actually vote.

Skip the signs and go straight to closed captioning.

2028,

You can add some enlightenment or you can boycott this blog and avoid being exposed to such trivial and non-constructive topic selection.

I don't think it was UMRBlog who put this overblown issue into the public domain.

If you think there's another take on this, share it with us. First, you might get your arms around what was really reported to the Law Enforcement.

UMBlog:

Just wanted to tell you that for the benefit of the above pea brain (who checked his signs), I have now added an additional section to that new book:

How to get people to waste gas checking on their signs to waste precious time that could be spent getting the vote out.

Wait until next cycle, our ace engineers are perfecting the "sign cam," "the sign siren" and the motion activated "don't touch this sign" voice controller.

We are also looking into the sign "wire recycling" campaign. Do they take one or two stickers?

Tony, "What the hell we (McCoy) sposed to do, ya mow-ron"? (no offense, line from animal house).

Tony, the guy ain't the sherrif yet (?), he can't exactly enforce the law if he ain't the sherrif. At least he is following proper procedure by reporting it, why and you villifying him for that? He can't be a vigilante, besids he doesn't even look like Charles Bronson. None of us can take the law into their on hands, you of all people should know that. LOL Just teasin

I got your ass on that one!

Please son't take any of the above jibs to heart, we all love ya, Tone!

2113,

And that would have what to do with the grandstanding before the media or the reward?

Nobody was busting anybody's chops for reporting the theft of three signs to the Sheriff's department, not three hundred.

When did the razorbacks change thier team colors to blue???

If I knew they wore blue I would have never bet the honorable Mr. Lootie.

I am so confused??????

Then again making his yard look like the DNC puked signs on it will probably be one of my fondest memories of local politics.
