HOMEBLOG SECURITY: YOU'RE WELCOME

Somehow, in amongst giving away Warren Buffet's money, the folks at Microsoft have cooked up patches for Windows XP and Office. They will be available for download on Tuesday. If you use Excel a lot, get 'em as soon as they come out.

In the meantime, consider using non-Microsoft alternatives for Excel. There is at least one good free one out there.

O.k Your humor was fine I guess I didn't understand it.
anyhow how does Warren Buffet's money connected to microsoft, as I remember he does not invest in hightech and the fact bill gates who is considered to be his friend and some member in Berkshire Hathaway
doesn't changes his strategy.

on your comment to use free office,
I used OpenOffice.
my opinion is if you can download professional (microsoft's) office for free there is no sense in using inferior one (openOffice).
if I had a business I would consider starting with openOffice.

I don't mind doing a little business with microsoft! Gates gives tons of $$$$$ to charity. Whether or not you agree with where he donates HIS money is up too each individual.

Have you heard about what he has done in his will? 10 mil to each of his 3 children then the rest to charitable organizations.

Pretty impressive.

;)

It was an oblique reference to Buffet putting his money in the Bill/Melinda Foundation. You are correct. If WB can't understand how a product works, he doesn't invest in it.

Very Interested in your views on the free software but please not, I didn't mention any particular product competing with MS.

Thank you for coming by.

0828,

Andrew Carnegie said the hardest task for a wealthy person is giving away his wealth without doing damage. I guess if I was one of the Lucky Sperm Donor Lottery Winners, I'd say "Go ahead. Damage Me!"

Thanks for coming by.

I'll bet in his will, he left his children and church all the worthless, offshore partnerships that got Enron into trouble.

UMR: Carnegie was really big on the "Gospel of Wealth," until it came to his own steel workers.

As for Microsoft, just wait for the Vista OS to come out. They already have plans for five versions.

Scott,

First, I really, really like your Blog. I have one (actually two) of those day jobs but I'll get you linked soon. Continued success.

Second, on Carnegie, you are right. Like most self-made folks, especially Scots (As opposed to Scotts--so don't take offense) he had difficulty understanding why everybody couldn't be a commodity magnate and vertically integrated manufacturer and pull themselves up by the bootstraps. At the risk of sounding like a Reagan Republican, which I am definitely not, he was right about one thing: If our labor force priced itself out of the market and made minimum staffing demands, the world's steel would get milled somewhere else. He was right. His failing was that he didn't conceive of a risk-sharing arrangement which could have met everyone's needs. He also had a really bad golf swing, which probably made him cranky. Scots think they're supposed to be born Old Tom Morris or something.

Third, MS is coming out with an OS that sounds like an osteoporosis drug in five freaking versions. It took me three years to memorize "XP". Somebody's going to ask me what I'm running and I'll choke on the question.

Thanks for coming by. Please do so again.

Fat Fingers Typo Alert! Second para of 1234 comment should have said "Please Note" not "Please Not" (Although I frequently do things that are not pleasing to others, particularly if they live, work or play golf with me--we all have different gifts. One of mine is being annoying.)
