RUSH TAKES A HARD POSITION BUT FACES STIFF OPPOSITION, ATTITUDE REMAINS "UP'

I really don't give a rip about Rush's pharmacology hobby but this is too funny. He gets a deferred prosecution, then faces losing it for an Rx he could easily have gotten written.

He's already made himself deaf with drug use. Now he's blind to the obvious risk he's taking. Vision problems are advertised warnings in Viagra ads.

That is funny. Almost as funny as Arlen Spector's cancer. You should go on the road with that show.

Obviously, you didn't read my earlier postings here and on my previous journal expressing good wishes for the guy's recovery, admiration for the way he handled the publicity and some outrage at the way the grandstanding Fla. authorities went after him, first for "Money-Laundering", then for the evil offense of "Doctor Shopping". Hell, I was 100% in his corner.

And if this was a slip back into an intoxicant, nobody would have more sympathy for successful 12 stepper who has a slip than I would. It's a topic about which I am deeply conversant.

But this is stupidly funny. He's on a deferred prosecution, which means he doesn't possess any drugs for which he has no prescription and that he completes counseling (which he had already done before the deal was struck). So he violates with a non-narcotic drug that he could get Rx'd at any walk-in and the stupidity (or denial or hubris) of that is not Darwin-awards funny?

The comparison of this behavior with Spector's cancer is either intentionally inapposite, as in "red herring" or you are really that stupid. I don't think you're that stupid. That just leaves intellectually dishonest. For now, I'll check that box.

When you post that something is "too funny" and then go on to mention that he has made himself deaf through the abuse of painkillers, I am not being intellectually dishonest to deduce that you think that is funny as well. It's probably safe to say that I am pushing the issue and making seemingly reasonable leaps to make the point I want. The reality is that this is really poor communication on your part... which is the hallmark of this blog.

Now, don't call me stupid.

I didn't call you stupid but I can't prevent you from self-identifying.

The hearing loss and the legal problems were predicate. A "shot across the bow", a "wake-up call". They were not funny. The first was unhappy and dangerous the other was brought about by somebody else's extreme human behavior.

That's what makes the stupidity of this behavior on his part so stunningly stupid, it's funny. It's funny like the Darwin Awards are funny.

Some folks tell me they get a lot of clarity here. They're mostly smart, though.

You can sign on as my grammarian and editor if you like. There are no openings for the position of chief polemicist. Lootie's already on contract.

Oh, and for those of you scoring at home......

I've now heard Roy Black's explanation. Funnier than his client's judgment.

Truly, I do hope is girlfriend the Cable News journalist doesn't have to rip'n read this stuff.

There are no smart people who get clarity from reading your stuff. Talk about self-important. Wow.

What's "funny" is that a private citizen is being harassed by the Florida government officials... that's what's goddamned, don't you think.... lawyerman?

Moyo-Foyo,

Relax, you are in no danger of achieving clarity.

The archives on my former site aren't real easy to transfer but on "government officials" (as I noted above" we are in complete agreement. Rush was one of the rare addicts who could afford it and had fundamentally no dependents. If the doctors to whom he went had low standards, that's a regulatory problem for Florida's medical authorities, not a reason to chase the guy's medical records and publicly embarass him. I even made that clear (oh, I know, you can't get "clarity" in here)in my 1242 comment.

We have no quarrel there.
