OSAMA IN RIGOR: LET THE POLITICKIN' BEGIN

I think we can all agree that this is a bad day for Osama.

But I'll betcha the Foxies and the lefties express some seriously differing views on whether it was a good day or a bad day for Obama.

On the on the one hand, it will be argued, he's not soft on HomeSec any more. On the other hand, the righties will say it shoulda happened sooner, he shouldn't have dissed a nice nuclear ally like Pakistan and besides, he wasn't born in the United States and the Birth Cert. was actually forged by a Ukrainian Arms Dealer who once dated his mother and, double besides, if we can get Osama Bin Laden, why can't we get all these illegals outta Arizona?

Good luck on the Unity thing, Mr. Prez.

This is going around on facebook:

Let's be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American soldier, who Obama just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the one in office when our soldiers finally found OBL and took him out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!! REPOST IF YOU AGREE!!

This crap is actually being posted by fairly intelligent people. I'm sure they are going to point out next that Truman didn't actually drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Roosevelt was not actually on the Beach at Normandy.

Everybody knows Obama was not my candidate for the prez but I have to give him credit here: DURING THE FREAKING CAMPAIGN he said he would breach Pakistani sovereign territory to kill or capture Osama. Nobody else among the credible candidates (including my own) said that straight out. He said it and he did it.

Nobody I know is discounting all the hard decisions made by Bush and Rummy that led to this and certainly nobody's minimizing the importance, skill or bravery of the Special Ops troops and CIA guys who made this possible.

But this FB beauty is a perfect example of what I predicted Sunday night when I wrote the original comment.

Come on, People!

As for unity, I see you start right off saying those on the right are birthers ... so much for your plea for unity. A poll said only 38% were certain Obama was born in the US, the same poll said only 43% were sure about Trump. You gets whats ya' pays for. I don't even know any birthers ... Obama played the birther card for every cent he could, just like the race card.

I always figured Obama was born in HI, but no denying Obama did come through a couple broken homes with some socialist mentors along the way, and formative years in Indonesia. And he liked the Marxist prof's best, he said so.

But getting trash talk toward the right out of the way ... I don't know of any conservatives that have a problem with going in and getting Osama. We were already going into Pakistan covertly when Obama made his "brave" (stupid?) call to go in to Pakistan without their permission. Pakistan could look the other way, but not so much if the American Prez' was bragging about it to the world.

Even Beck was praising Obama for making a gutsy call to go in, and not just bomb the place. It was said that Obama had earlier wanted to bomb the place, but when explained to him that several J-dams would obliterate the place (what was he thinking they would do?) ... he approved the idea of going in to get proof and intel.

Good for Obama ... but still, it would be hard to deny he ran on getting rid of Gitmo and releasing all the innocent goat herders, and no intensive interrogation please. But it seems those Gitmo interrogations Obama was against, pretty much carried the day.

Obama made the tough call ... it coulda blown up in his face ... so bravo for Obama. But he knew it could give him a little ratings boost and some tough guy creds .. so let's not get carried away and say Obama would never play to the polls.

well .. get carried away if you want, but the conservatives I know are nothing like those you do caricatures of .. maybe stay away from the Daily Kos Kool-Aide.

I've seen three common strains of twitter/facebook/blog reaction
1.) Bush bashing ("How come he couldn't get it done!?")
2.) Obama bashing ("He uses the word "I" too much! Plus I haven't seen the body yet! He many be lying!")
3.) Sanctimonious statements about how pathetic it is to show joy at the death of another human.

As for that facebook crap- something tells me that people who repost status updates and send emails forwards are the same people that also believe the Cold War ended when Rocky Balboa KOed Ivan Drago on Christmas Eve in Moscow.

Hey Bill,

Useful stuff. The clip was off of facebook. I virtually never wander into DK. My tinfoil hat's out at the dry-cleaners.

TYFCB.

Anon 1303,

Your second point is BHO's Achilles heel. He has to be the smartest guy in the room and the cabinet and military have to be "my" or "mine", not "ours".

In the words of Governor Adlai Stevenson, "A lack of humility is not often a handicap in electoral politics" so maybe it's just an occupational hazard.
