He is apparently trying to make some sort of statement.
"Lewis pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' suspension for bringing a gun into the Washington Wizards locker room, and said, "Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?"
The "gangster" attitude does seem rather prevalent in some pro sports, and it is a turn off for many. Of course it is not politically correct to refer to any correlation with race or nationality, but there probably is some.
Criminal activity should maybe merit a permanent ban from pro sports ... and from running for public office or lobbying congress.
The leagues are supposedly trying to clean up their image, but I suspect they also market the bad boy image to some degree.
Obama gave us our teaching moment on race by assuming the white cop acted stupidly, just after our president had stated he didn't know the facts. Now this wrestler promoter wants to continue the dialogue by blaming blacks for NBA ugliness, and suggesting a more separatist approach.
This is not the post-racial era I was promised.
I don't think there is any coincidence that this league is in the south. His statement is pretty much straight up racist. He is saying 1.) Blacks are not "real Americans" by the very name of the league and that 2.) Blacks are a dangerous criminal element which must be separated from good white folk. That is Jim Crow style racism there ace, not a sophisticated statement about pro sports. He brings up Gilbert Arenas, but when you hear the facts to that story it's pretty much an eye-roller about how dumb Gilbert is, not evidence of a thug element. Just look at it this way: Chris Anderson would be allowed in this league while Dikembe Mutumbo could fund all the free clinics in the world, but not block a shot. Jason Kidd could fire some passes in this league, and then go home and hit his wife, but our President couldn't suit up should the mood strike him. Jason Williams could throw racist slurs at fans, smoke up, curse out fans and reporters, but if Emeka Okafor wanted to play a couple games to fund his Safe Blood for Africa charity, he's outta luck. Geez dude, try thinking with the non-reptilian part of your brain next time.
Ummm ... I guess 8:51 am is referring to my 5:52 post. I was saying there is an issue with the gangster stuff, and while there may be a tie between the blacks and the gangster crap, it is not a pure racial issue, as the wrestler promoter tries to make it.
Nevertheless, the "bad boy" image is promoted, and with organized crime moving deeper into government, I think the nation's moral compass needs some adjustment.
But OF COURSE a white only league is not an answer, but is just some nut looking for a headline.
what's the big deal?they will have to play each other eventually,to be legitimate.Let's see who will be more "racist" afterwords.there will have to be some great trash talk.
