HERE'S HOW COOL THE NEW FREEDOM OF INFO ACT IS.....

The Act makes no distinction between a request from Francis Cardinal George and one from Osama bin Laden.

And if Mr. Bin Laden would like to file a FOIA, please remember to include a return address and a number where he can be reached in case there is a question about his request :)

That's not new.

Non-citizens have been allowed to file FOIA's since the act was first put in place.

What is new is that the options for denying a FOIA request have been narrowed considerably. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Kevin,

Exactly my point! It was screwed up in the first act and nobody took the time to fix it because everybody's trying to get into pro-transparency mode.

The five days thing is a minor change. The commercial thing is OK. The fee thing is the biggest unfunded mandate in the history of local government. Eliminating the local appeal is a tragic mistake. We have gotten several releases to where everybody was satisfied through the use of the local appeal process.

And of course there's that "What separation of powers?" part where the PAC makes judicial decisions instead of a.....ummmmm....Judge. Yeah, it's gonna be great. Real big improvement.
