THE WRONG SPEECH--DELIVERED BEAUTIFULLY
The drill was to say "Here's who I am and here's what I stand for and here's how I can help John McCain."
Instead, she drilled community organizers, argued for bad speakers over eloquent speakers and did what McCain had said was "Off Limits", disrespect the opponents.
I'm watching the foxies all moisten their undies but let's wait a week or so and see how this polls out. My hunch is the disaffected Clinton voters were looking for a standard bearer and not an attack dog.
The pretty family and the street-smart cracks really didn't look consonant to me.

Big surprise
Get that Palin Family a box of condoms for god's sake.
I think post the cnbc and cnn peeking into her family , the best point was the spear she held . I was proud of her and know a few neighbor wives in da hood that would be far worse .
Tonight we got the Real Woman and not a canned Political speech . She showed teeth like the 49th She wof she is .
I myself was proud of her . I would have beat Ober & Mathew's @ss for crossing the LINE .
I was also proud that she didn't shy from the fact she is a "Down's parent" ..........we need a real compasionate concervative , and not the BUNK G Dub sold America.
But I think when the other side and the press cross the line it's time to show teeth .
Are you a disaffected Clinton voter?
Also I text-ed you ( you need a crackberry -- your neighbor learned text) ........
You called the "effect" the O-BAMA camp and their media pit bulls missed .
At every pry and attack at HER family , they made every mother in America look at Sarah even more .
HRC never got the mom vote because frankly they didn't buy into what she was selling .
She also put herself with "Give em' Hell Harry " ....... small town USA loves that sh*t
Tookie--
Got your text and I do text. Don't need a crackberry to do that.
Clever, well-delivered speech but the sarcasm was too early in the game. Sets up the question of whether we want to elect Tina Fey or just be entertained by her.
10-4 about crossing the lines.
2126,
Absolutely not. I'm a disappointed HRC worker/voter/friend but I know who I want to pick the next four Supreme Court Justices.
TYFCB
I think a far West with a Working man's man Husband + McCain ticket will be exciting
Took,
I agree the ticket sets up nicely for them. But I think the residual effect of the Tina Fey sarcasm last night will dull her edge just a bit?
TYFCB
Can you give us an example of a local community organizer that might be offended by Sarah's speech?
Three people come immediately to mind. By coincidence, they all happen to be dead but I doubt the reference would have thrilled Donnie Kindhart, George Parsons or Penny Lewis.
Some of the folks who have filled their shoes, I believe, feel they are carrying out "actual responsibilities".
Don't get me wrong. It was a clever "red meat" line for a GOP lovefest. I just don't think, long term, dissing entire categories of people is good politics or a good way to introduce yourself. It's like saying "Hi, I'm Sarah and I don't respect what you do!"
TYFCB
She was dissing Obama, cause no one knows exactly what he did. It's on his resume. You're throwing out a straw man. Do you? How did he help those workers? What were the results? Did he have to answer to anyone?
Try for one that is alive.
umr 10:04
It's dangerous to assume to know what people are thinking or how they feel about something they have never witnessed.
It's NOT like saying "Hi, I'm Sarah and I don't respect what you do!"
It's more like, "Hi, I'm Sarah and I don't respect what Obama has done!"
1008,
Study up on "straw man" as a debating technique and try to avoid terms you don't understand.
She said "Community Organizer" and "Actual Responsibilities". That's an indirect slap at BObama's resume but a categorical whack at all CO's. Not good politics to whack whole categories of people.
That was my point. Parsing Obama's resume has nothing to do with whether she made a mistake or not.
1051,
Your question inherently invited me to give an opinion (You didn't expect me to do polling, did you?). I gave one. Guess, I'll just have to look out for Mr. Stranger/Danger if what I did is so perilous.
TYFCB
1226,
You would have a point, if you had a point. She didn't call him out, she called out the whole category of "Community Organizer" and implied they have no "Actual Repsonsibilities." If that's a position she wants to defend and hold to, works for me.
If we're going to discuss the speech, we should probably limit ourselves to the one she actually gave. That would be a starting point.
TYFCB
I guess they decided to take the risk on the all important community organizer block, of which you can't even seem to find a live one around here.
Which way would you say the "community organizer" community leans as a voting block?
"Can you give us an example of a local community organizer that (sic)might be offended by Sarah's speech?"
You didn't ask me to identify current community organizers in Quincy who didn't qualify in that category. Nobody said I couldn't identify current community organizers here.
It's a common mistake we all make but usually "who" precedes a reference to a human being.
TYFCB
I'll take that as a no, you can't.
Isn't it great the way UMR always like to make the snide elitist remarks to any poster he disagrees with. The typical elitist put down. what I would like to know is how Roman Catholics square their religion with Obama's stance on being able to kill any unborn child or even those who survive an abortion?
Hi, BushWhack,
Good to see you back in here. Welcome!
So grammar is the property of the elite. Good to know. It's a good thing my kids didn't know that growing up. When I corrected their grammar, they could have told me I was engaging in an elitist put-down, instead of helping them get ahead in life and make a decent impression on employers and associates. I'm glad I got past that, even though the word's out now. Good grammar is elitist.....I'm gonna have to work on internalizing that. I wonder if Abraham Lincoln got that memo.
On your underlying point, I guess you'd have to ask a Roman Catholic. This is just a hunch but they'd probably tell you that their personal beliefs about the morality of certain medical procedures aren't part of what government does. But that's just a guess.
Now I have one for you, are you gonna change your handle on January 21 or are you just gonna wait around for Neil Bush to be elected like the 46th or 47th president?
TYFCB
Mr Bushie
Now that you mention it, I did notice that. It's one of the many reason's he lost 2-1 in his last bid for elected office. The stupid people notice when you say you respect all opinions out one side of your mouth, while putting them down as your intellectual inferior out the other side.
When you misstate stuff, anon, I'm not supposed to say I respect it. When you try jury cases, you learn to respect the opinion of the community. That doesn't mean when one person says something whacked out you don't disagree with it.
Surely even a stand-up thoughtful anon like you can see the difference between respecting the common wisdom of the American people and disagreeing with an individual person.
...and ya did it again. You the man.
Your argument is weak when your candidate is Obama. Take a look in the Obama mirror. Ain't nobody prettier and more scripted than that dude.
And your major beef is she may have offended community organizers? Wow!
That's something. Good luck with that.
grammar sucks and so does spelling
ABC,
You just made abortion sound like a tonsillectomy. C'mon.
Palin: Iraq war 'a task that is from God'

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."
In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."
Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.
"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."
A video of the speech was posted at the Wasilla Assembly of God's Web site before finding its way on to other sites on the Internet.
Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.
"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.
"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."
Palin attended the evangelical church from the time she was a teenager until 2002, the church said in a statement posted on its Web site. She has continued to attend special conferences and meetings there. Religious conservatives have welcomed her selection as John McCain's running mate.
Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, lamented Palin's comments.
"I miss the days when pastors delivered sermons and politicians delivered political speeches," he said. "The United States is increasingly diverse religiously. The job of a president is to unify all those different people and bring them together around policy goals, not to act as a kind of national pastor and bring people to God."
The section of the church's Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."

Bill Ayers, now there's a "community organizer" that might be offended along with umr.
1642,
My major criticism is she attacked categories of people when she should have been introducing her impressive self and her riveting family.
You know how many millions of middle class, white-haired old ladies have read and loved Obama's memoirs? Why attack him for producing something that made those people happy? Why attack thos people for reading such fluff?
I still say, "Wrong Speech, Beautifully delivered."
She could have a waited a week to become Spiro.
1944,
In debating, it's called a "definitional stop". If my starting point is that it's a medical procedure, jointly decided by Dr. and Patient and your Starting Point is that it's "Murder", we can't have a meaningful discussion about the role of government in the decision because we can't agree on the definition of the thing to be regulated.
When you peel back all the layers, that is why the discussion on this topic is usually not a discussion at all but two parallel punchlists repeated to an "audience" who cannot listen because of the definitional stop.
There is no known cure for definitional stops.
TYFCB
123,
I didn't use murder as a starting point. Perhaps you are using my Catholicism to make that assumption.
If using the term "medical prodecure" was meant to provoke a response, it did. Either that or it's just another way to trivialize abortion.
It is amazing how many blue dogs go to Washington with a firm pro-life plank in their platform and magically convert to pro-choice because they know it is part of their blood oath to ascend to power in the national Democratic party.
jrg,
I was speaking hypothetically. Didn't mean to impute any personal views to you or me, just defining "definitional stop" and its impact on the discussion. Should have depersonalized my example. Haste.
Sorry, perfectly aware you can express your own views.
And, yes, taking one position while campaigning and taking another, once elected is not exemplary behavior, however common.
ACORN is one of my favorite community organizing groups. How 'bout you?
Do you see what she meant by "community organizers"? Or do you want to continue your argument?
1552,
I know what SHE meant by community organizer--The real discussion is how it was taken by people who fancy themselves community organizers.
It was the wrong speech because it trashed categories of people. We apparently disagree. Stuff happens.
TYFCB
So you're smart enough to figure out what she meant, but assume others are just too stupid to figure that out?
