QUINCY AND TRI-STATE MEDIA: DEPARTMENT OF REDUNDANCY DEPARTMENT
I have heard this three times on three different Local TV Stations and one Chicago Station.
"The police have brought in a Canine Dog to assist in the search.." (I suppose they could be saying "K-9", not that it would be an improvement).
I guess this is done to carefully exclude Oscar Mayer products.
Next, we will probably refer to cruisers as "Automotive Automobiles" and attire as "Uniform Uniforms...."

It is most likely written K-9.
This an example of RAS syndrome or Redundant Acronym Syndrome syndrome
Other examples include:
ATM machine
Automated Teller Machine machine
HIV virus
Human Immunodeficiency Virus virus
PIN number
Personal Identification Number number.
My hot water heater is broken.
Oldie but a goodie.
