TO OUR IRANIAN FRIENDS: PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FIGHTER/BOMBERS AND THE RECON TEAMS

There is no truth to the nasty, vile rumors that our President has asked for precision targeting information within your country. Other than maybe a few refineries, major arterials, bridges and the odd centrifuge, we really don't have any more than about 1600 tactical sorties in our playbook. You are a secular democracy, so we don't have to bring you representative government by bombing the snot out of your infrastructure, like we did those weasels in Iraq. Your REAL enemy is the New York Times, which is trying to make you believe that our Defense Department has a plan to blow up your back yard. The fact that Secretary Gates has just googled your chicken house is a mere coincidence. Not to worry.

Those guys in black up in the hills, looking through the bi-knocks? That's tryout camp for the new QND Raider mascot.

You have nothing to fear from the peace-loving United States of America and its peaceful leaders.

Still, when you put your winter things away, you might want to keep the lead-lined Jockeys within easy reach.

I have always enjoyed your blog, This is too much and fratenizing with the enemy. In my view, this is treason. We have American troops trying to protect this country from another 9/11 incident from the Muslim countries. Whats goin on?

Being annoyed that our development targets in Iran has been leaked is TREASON? Telling them they may need their lead BVD's (with all due apologies to Tom Lehrer) is fraternizing (BTW, "fratenizing" is when you take a penny and put it on a the rail a Japanese "Burret" train.)

The point is that the New Yorker is disclosing air contingency operations. I can tell you from professional experience, that can get real pilots real dead.

Perhaps you're spoofing me in some way that I just can't quite grasp but my better guess is you just missed my point or didn't hear about the NY--Hersch piece.

I hope you can continue to enjoy us here in The Basin.

It would help if ,in your posts you provided links to what you have read.
It makes things clearer.

Sorry UMR. You are right. I neither got the point or knew about the NYT article. Have pretty much stoped reading the NYT. Their biased writing and unamerican attitude is disgusting. No wonder their readership is going down. Anne Coulter said "The Duke accusser told so many lies, they had to offer her Jayson Blairs old job."

You're probably right. I resist cutting and pasting for many reasons, some probably sound, some probably not.

I'll at least work on getting the backstory out there. Don't want to commit any journalism.

1423,

I dunno, New Yorker on line ran it too and Hersch has always gotten the broad strokes of his expose stories right. If I had to choose between Hersch and Woodward, I'd take Hersch every time.

The folks who get all poopy about the NYT, usually have their hair on fire over the editorial page, not the news coverage.

Whatever, the fact that we are planning bomb runs is not something that should be public information. That much, I don't think is arguable. If we have a special prosecutor for the Plame outing (and I think that was a defensible decision), we damn sure oughta have one for Centcom leaks.

Thanks for stepping back in. I would just as soon not have a military encounter with Iran but--whatever war we happen to be in--I think I'll root for our side.

Umr: if your speak was anti Bush, count me in. It was difficult to figure out. It appears to me that the Bush Administration is in the first stages of "wagging the dog." If we have to go to war with Iran so be it. I hope we as a people, and Congress demand real proof and a clear plan of action. The Bushies have proven they cannot be trusted. Looks like another problem the next Administration will have to face.

Re: bombers and recon teams, I remember around 1993, I'm driving in Hannibal, Mo, and low and behold an F-14 Tomcat comes screamin over my head, very low! I was freakin out, trying to figure out why a naval fighte was in this area (Clancy novel in Hannibal?), later news said they had broght the jet in from a naval base in Virginia to take pictures of the flood with the TARPS cam on the Tomcat.

At least now, if Obama hides out in MT Cave, we have him targeted!
