DOGGED PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE: WESTMINSTER

Dogs are some of the best evidence that God exists. Few other creatures make our lives nicer. I love dog shows and, here in the frozen UMRB, it was great to have the Westminster Kennel Club show on TV. It was like having the Super Bowl last two nights.

What I really loved was that this year the winning dog actually looked like a dog. Sturdy, straightforward Springer. The "best in show" judge was also a class act. It made for great TV. Thanks to USA Channel for carrying it.

I grew up around Dobies, Dalmatians, min. Schnauzers, Pomeranians and full size Collies. My companion dog--bike riding, fishing, even hunting, was a dalmatian. What a buddy he was!

What's your favorite dog, breed or dog story?

Sappy or even maudlin is perfectly acceptable here.

My teen-age daughter works for a dog breeder, they have 8 brand new Bloodhound pups (my fav breed), 11 new Standard Poodle /Golden Retriever hybrid pups, and have Pug pups coming any day now. She has learned a lot working with the dogs.

Having a Jack Russell now is like constantly downing Red Bull.

Beagles are simply the best.
But two dogs in one house never works, so the Red Bull, er Jack Russell stays for now.

German Shorthairs all the way! Got three right now. Wish I had six, but that wouldn't be practical.

Rocky I have 3 hunting labs

2 males and the boss added a female , price of stitches went down to 0 . The Jr Boss digs her labs and plays dress up and tea party.

A jack R makes you a better man than me , I could not handle a dog on meth.

Some Jack R's are too alpha, almost like a cat. But the ones that likes his owner (albeit) second best is wondrous companion.

Labs are just good citizens. Hard breed to go wrong on.

My sister's companion dog was a Dobie. Mister StrangerDanger woulda had no chance but with the family, the Dobie was the best wrestling partner, Never a scratch or a nip.

If it happened today, somebody'd call DCFS.
