On his first day of campaigning as an official candidate for president, Barack Obama committed what would in days of old have been recognized as a major international blunder. If you are old enough to recall the proposition that politics stops at the water's edge, you are probably incapable of suspending rational thought to join in the excitement over a not-readly-for-prime-player joining the field of Democratic candidates for the presidential nomination.

Dyslexia 0618,

The whole post is about the Water's Edge thing. It works on incoming and outgoing as well. My position was the same when Chavez ripped Bush.

I happen to be uncommitted to any presidential candidate. You are right about one my being "incapable of suspending rational thought." Translated that means "capable of rational thought...." If you want to start over, I'll probably publish your second try.

Suggestion: try simple, declarative sentences.

Word are tricky, slow down a little and read it a couple more times, you'll see it is correctly written.

Tortured, but I think I can divine an English meaning for it that is both rational and contextual.

I'll leave it for the readers.

BTW, I actually agree with your first sentence. Imagine a Republican saying the same thing in 1951! He wouldn't have been electable to any office.

I still like simple declarative sentences, especially when you're making a pithy point. (Yes, I know. That was a compound sentence.)
