ADAMS COUNTY PARAMEDICS NEED A NEW PUBLICITY ADVISOR
When they were plugging for a tax increase, they were quick to assure the public "This is isn't about us getting more money. We just want to make sure that ambulance services remain available to the whole county!"
Now they've voted to strike and....oh, by the way.....Good Luck on the "Service to the whole County" thang.
Not saying who's right in the pay dispute. Still, a strike is inconsistent with a concern for consistent service for our citizens here in Adams County, Illinois. Make up you mind, folks, which is your priority?

Nifong .......
We need some Nifong insight
The answer to your question is pretty clear.
When you or a loved one are laying in the back end of an ambulance, you don't really care what salary package was negotiated. You need the best and the brightest. This is a troubling situation.

1650,
Get checked for ADHD and dyslexia. This post was about Honest and Effective communication. No place does it place into issue the amount of anybody's salary or the or the value of Emergency Medical Pesonnel.

The Adams County Paramedics have the highest wage package in the tri-state area. I have heard they even make more than those in Springfield. Correct me if I am wrong. Nobody questions their ability. Nor does anybody question the ability of paramedics in Brown or Pike County or for that matter Hannibal.Any analysis of the wage issue, however, should inlcude a comparison of wages in the surrounding area.
1552,
I don't know and it really doesn't matter to the point I was trying to make. A little integrity in public communication was in order, no matter who makes what.
Thanks for coming by.
Maybe they can get Arlo now that Woody is dead.
First comment: the paras and EMTs were required by union rules to take the strike vote as soon as they rejected the contract. If they did NOT take the strike vote, the rules would have automatically validated the proposed contract. Now, whether they should have voted DOWN the strike proposal is another question (if they don't intend to strike).
Second comment: Were the people who are upset over their wages hired as EMTs or paramedics? If they accepted employment AS EMTs, regardless of their paramedic licenses, then they don't really have anything to complain about, in my book. You're on the books as EMTs, not paramedics. It's not the county's fault the state requires you to keep up your paramedic license. HOWEVER, if they were promised that, if they hired on as EMTs, they would be "moved up" to the better positions, then they have every right to be upset.
1248,
That's good. That's really good.

1515,
They new the rules when they made apparently false representations to encourage the passage of the tax and to induce other public figures to support them. If they were going to have to take a contrary position later, they shouldn't have painted themselves so noble.
Whenever they tell you...."It's not about the money".....you know the rest.
