QUINCY BLOGGERS: STAYING ON TOPIC

Been in kind of spirited discussion in another blog. Very interesting and mostly pretty satisfying discussion.

Still, many of the commentators just really can't stay on topic. We were talking about stormwater runoff and what needs to be done about it. Some guys begin talking about Capital Development and end up talking about School Board business.

Maybe it's from Stormwater runoff, but some of our locals seem to have acutely limited attention spans.

Just a thought.

Speaking of the recent storms - do you think anyone should challenge Phil Hare in the 17th during this election cycle?

Adult ADHD ????

I think those were bouncing balls of pissed off and had enough . The main guts of the debate were pretty much " We have a failing system and need to bite the bullet and fix it"

I know you won't answer it , but every mayor we elect does not want to be the guy who has to raise taxes and bond this monster . Spring would be nailed to a cross in the election , yet in 5 years would prob have the water plants , sewers , and waste treatment areas named after him .

So short sighted .

For years Quincy City gov't has praised itself for lowering the tax rate and reducing the number of city employees as your tax bill rose and payroll has increased. They move out the none machine personnel and make up jobs to fill with the party faithful while the infrastructure has been crumbling kissing Durbin's ass the whole way. Hey at least we have bridge lights...has anyone even seen those yet?

That's pretty funny.

Took,

I wasn't trying to move that debate here. It's just been increasingly difficult, it seems to me, for locals to stay on one topic. Everybody's got his pet issue and he can't set it aside to talk about important topics like Tookie brought up (even if bombastically).

0529,

I guess you missed the part about I'm not trying to move Tookie's debate here.

Nice C&P, though. Takes real talent.

Bombastic is what we tend to do when our BEAT reporter is Ed "waterhead" Husar . I had an in depth Q&A with an Ex Whig guy who helped enforce my ultra low opinion of said Waterhead .

The biggest hurdle of fixing our aging and failing system is the cost and someone will need to trim the City's budget .

I know the fear of cutting good old ground troopers jobs . But frankly enough is enough .

City Hall should award a key to the City to QNI for doing such great PR and smoke and mirror work for them .

I fear for Doug Wilson if Rich Miller takes a few months off . Where the hell would he copy/paste from ?

This damn moderation !!!! I posted then saw a reply , given only one cup of Java is in my bloodstream , I thought "what the hell I did not copy/paste"

Damn moderation damn it damn it damn it !

But at least you don't make us encrypt it like Rodney does ! That is not easy for the dyslex type .

I lost my ability to see the moderated comments before they are published yesterday. It takes more real talent to C&P one's own post. Just wanted to see if you would ignore it here also, check.

Posters in a blog thread that change the topic over the course of 60+ comments, fascinating observation unique only to Quincy blogs.

Rodney's/Joe's fade to green letters are just for spam prevention. They don't do anything about avoiding the hairy hand for people who come in from a net nanny work place.

Tony ,

as posted in YELLOW ! QNI's net nanny is fixed . The block came from parties unknown making it "rain men" at Oracle .

parties Unknown found out it is the fastest rout to a new speak .

If we moderated then nobody would see the all the funny rain man posts. The unfunny ones get deleted, thus saving our fans a wasted click of the mouse.

1910,

I agree with first clause, first sentence. Disagree with second clause, first sentence. Disagree with first clause, second sentence. Disagree with second clause, second sentence. Disagree with Third Clause, Second Sentence. Disagree with Fourth Clause, Second Sentence (but I do nominate this sentence for the Hall of Fame of run-on sentences.)

Don't have enough information to respond to the third sentence.

You're welcome.

Do you then have proof payroll has not increased?

What years would you like to compare? I do know for sure the city's tax rate is way down form Say, FY1983 to FY2007.

Are suggesting, I'm supposed to carry crap like that around in my briefcase?

Still, when you look at the City's share of the RE tax bill, there's not much to complain about.

Send a FOI request to yourself and see what salaries have done.

At 8:33 AM, August 10, 2007, Blogger UMRBlog said...

An I would want to use my time to generate data to answer YOUR questions exactly why?

Undeniably, the City's RE tax rate has gone down since the Carl D. days.

If we subtract the sworn departments (nobody argues, there's any chronyism there) the gross salaries will have gone down as a percentage of GDP (you dem bashers love to state things as a percentage of GDP). Also, I'll bet if you go back to '83 and track inflation adjusted dollars, the wage line item is about the same now as it was then.

So, there's your model. You or 0531 do the work.

0929,

I just answered a question about whether I agreed or disagreed with something. I didn't stake out any positions except to respond and make an overview.

Don't have any obligation to write a term paper because someone asks me if I agree with someone else.

1915,

You raise an interesting point about FOIA. All of the Attorneys in the legal dept. also have private practices. When we want something for non-official use, we file FOIA requests, have them reviewed by a compliance officer and then pay for our copies.

GDP of Abu Dhabi for all I give a rat's ass. I didn't set out to prove anything. I answered your question about a proposition I didn't initiate.

You get the idea I'm not interested in writing a term paper on this issue that has your shorts on fire?

Tookie:

You are dead wrong in two areas. First of all, David Kent really doesn't know jack about sewers. He is simply a lifer at city hall. Doesn't hold an engineering degree, has had no real training that amounted to much outside of his field of Biology. But the city brain trust continues to sponsor him and hold him in high regard since they know even less about the matters currently being discussed. He was a water department technician prior to becoming water department superintendent. He is where he is today by default, Charley Jones and Van DeBoe retired out leaving Dave with the big saddle. Also, Camp, Dresser & McKee may be headquartered in Mass, but they have offices and representation in every major city. They are a big house. However, Klingner could have done the job just as professionally and probably at less expense. The talking heads at city hall are easily impressed by out of towners.

Secondly, the sewer on Vermont Street between 18th & 24th was updated in the late 1950's when a separate concrete storm sewer and midway catch basins were installed.

OK, chief, better stick to more important topics like fat golfers and how they may or may not win in the heat?!

At 1:50 PM, August 11, 2007, Blogger UMRBlog said...

I didn't say the topic wasn't important or even useful. I said I wasn't interested in doing research or writing about it now.

It really wasn't that complicated a thought.
