BEEF IN THE BOONIES

Another great job by the ACYDs on the steak feed! It was beautifully organized, well attended and a lot of fun. Normally, I don't go all gooey about political speeches but the Sheriff really did a great job talking about the promises he made and kept as well as his dynamic plans for the future.

There were also some unusual golf swings exhibited and the West Parking Lot was perhaps in jeopardy from a few low line drives that weren't exactly right on the flagstick.

I hope the energetic leadership of this organization will make this an annual event. I think everybody there last night would support this event annually and the ACYD's would be able to be more active with a war chest each cycle.

Credit to John Sullivan and Rob Mellon for being in attendance. Didn't see any of the other candidates.

From the former member that got kicked out for being too damn old. . . .

I assisted the ACYD committee as per an agreement I made with them prior to them kicking the old man out! It has been discussed as an annual event several times. The last two years there have been scheduling conflicts with other events. This is the reason that the ACYD's decided to do it much earlier this year. They like doing it in the fall because of the weather but got real lucky with the weather this past weekend. It is definately being looked into as an annual though.

The direction signs that the Oracle put together were hilarious! Don't know how many people walked in laughing about the little quotes on each sign.

Everything seemed to go very smooth. The "Old Germans" cooked the steaks to perfection! We wouldn't expect anything else from these two though. Great crowd. On par with the last event held by the ACYD's. What can I say, all those attributes that got me in so much trouble as a teenager are finally paying off!! I have little doubt that the next generation of ACYD's are going to fall right into the groove with these types of events!

Everyone seemed to have a great time. The first indication that it was going to be a good night was when I had to go tap another keg for them. Needless to say, when you open the gates at 5 pm and you have to tap your second keg at 6:30 pm you can assume a good time is going to be had by all!

Carlos and the Blonde hosted a very nice golf chipping contest as you stated. I must have missed seeing those low linedrives but I did see Rich Jr. sink about 5 balls in a row into the water. Oh ya, and the Riffer dunked one when I yelled out his name middownstroke. If looks could kill!! LOL Funniest part of the whole deal was a 14 yr. old who doesn't play golf won the golfbag and all the old pro's went home empty handed!

The Mudcats did a great job with the music. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their mix of country and rock. They kept the volume at a moderate level until after 9 pm. I can not say enough about the job they did and how easy they were to work with.

I really think these young men and women have figured out a great technique when it comes to having fundraisers. Put out a quality product and the sale of tickets gets really easy. Our premise to fundraisers has been to make people think they are attending a nice BBQ/PARTY!!! Don't try to make it appear as a political event even though it actually is. Have some political figures give very, very very, short concise speeches and get back to the PARTY. I hope they continue with that premise and I think they will be very sucessful in their future endeavors.

The one in '02 was later in June and the mosquitoes had a very successful hatch. This was less humidity and zero skeeters.

IMHO, having it in the fall would make it feel more political and stretch out our volunteer force. That early June weekend would make a perfect ANNUAL event. You know, when you have something every year, it's easier to get a crowd.

BTW, you're right about the band. Talk about having a range of material, those guys have it.

The signs were a scream.

Anybody missed this, missed a good one.

Was talking about the congressional candidates. I thought the context was obvious. Todd's gonna represent me in the CB, come December.

It surely can't be legal for anybody to be as nice as Lisa "High Beams"H-G.

Great night.

Another great place for movie's is the Drive-in in Summer Hill. Great family atmosphere. The price is a bit higher but who can argue with $5 for 2 movies.

The riverfront movies and the blues in the park are both great family oriented activities that more people in our community should take more advantage of!
