TODAY'S THEME

Maybe this is just a subset of yesterday's theme. Today it's people I'm trying to help--access the system, avoid penalties, avoid jail time, come into compliance on this or that--and they want to argue with me and Rage Against the Machine. People, God gave you two ears and one mouth. Listen to what is being said to you...it is a path out of the wilderness. Your filibuster is a path to the Adams County Jail.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

Here's an idea. When the voices stop, post something everyone can understand.

If people were as smart as you and me the world would be a better place!

One of the most sensible things you've ever written. (truly no backhanded compliment intended). There's a time and place for raging against the machine, just not when you are in the muck. Take a path out and not bitch about how you were railroaded.

Off topic alert: you remember a few months ago when you posted something about one of your army buddies you were trying to locate as a google fishing expedition? Did that every work? Just curious

Rocky,

I make no pretense of being high end intellect. I just picked up in my travels it's generally a bad idea to bite the hand extending the treat.

Well, this is interesting.

I don't know you personally, but from what I can discern from reading your blog this past year, I gather that you have been "lawyering in The Basin" for some time.

As with any job dealing with the public, the @ssholes will always be with us, so I'm wondering if the @ssholiness quotient has increased over the years you've been "lawyering in The Basin", or whether you are nearing retirement and therefore have less tolerance for idiots than you did 30+ years ago.

I think the main thing is, when you're in court or in the SA's office, don't act like you're in a 5th St. bar. Nothin against 5th St bars!!!

My style has always been peacemaker. If anything, age has made me less feisty and retirement is not an issue in my life. Retired people tend to die quickly and if that happened there'd be no one left to torture my buddies.

I think the YOUNG asshole ratio has gone up (25 and below). Have no idea why.

Perhaps acknowledge they have legit points (if you can find them) ... then ask them if they are prepared to pay fines and serve jail time to make their point, or if they would prefer your sage course of extraction from the discomfort.

Maybe they are eager for their advocate to "bond" with their position before they can move on and accept your wisdom?
