UPBEAT IN QUINCY'S GERMAN VILLAGE

Don't know how many you have noticed it but there's a store near 8th and State called "Caskets Direct". Wonder if they get a lot of window shoppers.

They have a van that was parked on Broadway last week. I bet the funeral homes don't like them very much.

Glad I am able to respond anonymously as both partners are friends, but frankly, I think their stuff looks cheap. The boxes from the funeral directors look better.

Nothing wrong with choices, though. That's a part of the death process that has always bothered me. How much did you love this person? The luxury ride or the compact econo ride? Shiver...

Rusty does have a $99.00 "Pine Box" special, also a scratched & dented mark-down section in the basement.

Somehow it just doesn't seem right to spend more on the deceased clothes than on their casket. When you see the el-cheapo boxes, you'll see what I mean. This place makes Wal-Mart look upscale.

Give me the pine box special any day. I hope God won't judge me by the box in which I arrive.

The easiest way to solve the problem of expense on Caskets is to have your loved one cremated.

That way, you're saving money and you have the opportunity to keep your loved one with you.

Like everything around here...you are your address, your pant size, the car you drive...and you most certainly are the casket you meet your maker in. It's not the quality of your life...but, of the box you are laid out in.
