MISSISSIPPI LOCK AND DAM REPAIR FUNNY MONEY: SHRUB SHAFTS BASIN

Congress provides the money to repair the largest commercial river highway in the world. Shrubbie refuses to spend it. I don't care that the only Senator holding his feet to the fire on this is a Republican. Get him, Kit! Bite him in the ankle!

When will we get a President who understands the Lock and Dam issue? We blew our chance with Al Gore. We've had no chance since.

President Obama will take care of us on this one.

One suspects his attention will be more on the Ohio, Red and Rio Grande rivers in the near term.

This is a sickening chapter in Adams County's presidential selection. Al Gore came here in 2000 (on the river) he was asked, quite properly, by GEM his position on the L&D restoration. He said as soon as the whistleblower/EPA case was concluded he believed the modernization should go forward and he would support it. GEM then chased shrub around the country (first Peoria and then Chesterfield, MO) trying to get him to answer the same question. When they finally cornered him in Chesterfield, he said "I'll look at it" (Cue Alfred E. Newman expression). He had no clue.

In '04 we had two guys with no clue.

In the '04 Senate Primary, Blair Hull brought the issue front and center. Obama was MIA on it.

I'd like to be able to say that Hillary has been all over it, but I don't think that's the case.

Reading the McCainSpeak, I'm confident he wouldn't support it, even if the budget got through congress.

So, at the end of the day, you're probably right. Obama may be in the most danger of actually obtaining a clue on this vital issue to the the basin.

It would be nice to see McCaskill actually join with Bond in scorched earth outrage.

I don't think most folks realize this is tantamount to electing to run an interstate highway @ two lanes.
