NOTE TO ADAMS COUNTY YOUNG DEMOCRATS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Everybody in the party looks forward to your annual "Beef in the Boonies" Party. You're always gonna need the money. The party always needs unity events. How about you get it on the calendar so we can plan around it and promote it.

Note: It doesn't have to be an election year for money to be a cool thing for a YD org. to have.

I'll pass along the idea to the existing executive committee members. Doubt you see the same location as in the past and if so you will not see this past president in attendance.

I don't know if I have been to your weblog before, but I just saw that Drew's fine weblog is the top one on your blogroll... Good choice.

Here is Sangamon County, there is a strong College Republicans chapter; and the GOP did well at our County level last month, despite the outcome elsewhere. Which party is strongest in Adams County... or is it pretty much divided? Also, how are the collegiate and youth groups there? And are the Democrats more conservative [on social and/or fiscal issues] in your county, than in other parts of Illinois?

1221,

Venue/Host Property are just details. The dates and planning are the thing. YD's are the coolest when they have a little money to throw at their issues and candidates. I'm just wanting the organization to reload it's treasury and keep this great event annual.

JKS is the world authority on micro-planning. So you already have a not so secret weapon.

It is fitting that there should be good College R's in the home county of Lincoln/Herndon/Speed. Of course, I contend that, if Lincoln were alive today, he'd be a democrat.

'06 Mid-term was just an incumbent wash locally. Incumbent R treasuer thumped a very attractice and energetic challenger. Incumbent D Sheriff thumped a very fine R challenger with good law enforcement credentials.

We have seven county board districts, three members each. R's have had control each term except one for the last 40. It's essentially a GOP County. We can shoplift the odd office in the Mid-Term election but when the turnout's big in the presidential years, all increased turnout is GOP.

The division evens out because the democrats perpetually retain control of the Quincy City council (That's 40,000 of a little less than 70,000 folks in the county and about 25k out of 40k) registered voters. We've had 32 years out of the last 40 of Dem Mayors. So there are checks and balances.

This is an extraordinarily Roman Catholic community and heavily churched in other faiths as well. A candidate who was for full gay marriage and who thought Roe v. Wade was a simple expression of some Natural Law would do poorly. Alan Keyes did better here than in any county in the state.

The anti-tax thing a little stranger. We passed a pro-ambulance service ref recently. We distrust our school board and they can't pass a referendum to save their souls.

The College Dems and republicans here tend to be cults of personality. A strong leader popped up a while back and we had good C/dems. Before that a very committed young man really pushed the envelope on C/Repubs and particularly abortion. We also have a community college where the organized activity is more pro-incumbent legislator (whoever brings the grant money) and pro-libertarian (many non-traditional students are interested in rugged individualists.

Thanks for the inquiry. Come by any time.

Hope there are some honry dems on campus in spr like there were back in the early 90's. You will have a long year.

A few dems back in the 90's placed the president of the YR's vehicle in nuetral, rolled it out of one parking space, and into the handicapped space. Then sat on the porch of thier apartment drinking rum and coke while waiting to see if he got a ticket.

Man was he pissed about not having any beer money for a couple weeks!!!
