DEBATE HANGOVER: THE "WHAT?" FACTOR

Ol' Jimbo asked them both clearly whether they favored the $700B rescue package. Both took the opportunity to make swell list of stuff they liked and didn't like and nobody answered the question. At least Obama said "we're waiting for language".

Later, the house Repubs deftly made it moot. I think they might have gotten it right. One either believes in a free market or one doesn't. Surely woulda been fun to watch McCain and Obama blame each other for the bad parts of the bill in Senate Debate though.

The debate about bailing out Wall Street or Main Street - I guess I don't understand. Isn't the elementary school explanation of this mess that Main Street's overload spending and not honoring a promise to pay back loans and credit cards glare as the root cause of this?

0504,

Valid point but the boiling point is still not reached if wall street had not started trading debt as a commodity (and I don't mean just mortgages).

But that debt would not have been available to trade like a commodity if people who should have known better hadn't bought homes (and businesses) that they couldn't afford.

Looks to me like more than enough blame to go around.

Except for those of us who don't use credit. It's not OUR fault, tyvm.
