WHEN THE BIG RIVER LURKS: "FESTIVE" TAKES A HOLIDAY

Anybody else run into the whole idea of Summer Fun and Holiday parties right now? Even if I've got some time off, partying and festive activity doesn't feel right when our region stands to be devastated in economic and human terms.

Don't exactly know what "normal" is but this period in our lives is decidedly not "normal".

I'd be interested in your experiences and feelings.

I suppose my take on it is--getting dressed up in black and mourning and not doing anything to keep up morale isn't going to change a thing. For that matter neither is going to the Arts Faire or enjoying some Blues, but it won't hurt either.

People need time off from the "bad stuff". I don't have a problem with it, as long as people remember that come tomorrow the same problems will still be there and need to be dealt with.

I guess I'm saying as a tool for morale restoration and "getting a breather", go for it. But if it's just to pretend we have no problems to deal with and to take advantage of other people doing all the work, then maybe some folks better rethink their attitude.

You are, of course, correct. It's just funny how we (I) process things.
